The spirit of festivity and competition was quite visible at SJC, Allahabad, as it had organized the cultural extravaganza called Josephest – 2007, the annual Inter School Cultural Festival. The fest started on 17th October 2007 and it culminated on 18th October 2007. The Josephest is an inter-school meet in which the schools from the city and outstation participate. This year 8 schools have participated, viz., YMCA Centenary School, Tagore Public School, St. Mary’s Convent Inter-College, St. Anthony’s Convent Inter-College, Bethany Convent School, St. Joseph’s College; Alld, St. Joseph’s School; Rihand Nagar and St. Peter’s School; Raibareli. This traditional event, over the years, has provided the platform for budding artistes and nurtured leadership qualities in the students of various schools.
The delegates from various schools were spellbound by the creativity shown at the inaugural ceremony. The chief guest for the inaugural ceremony was Mr. Sandeep Sharma, Additional Commissioner, an ex-Josephite, who passed out from the college in 1977. In his presidential address he remembered his school days and appreciated the contribution of the teachers in shaping his personality. He was of the opinion that Josephest is the best platform to unfold the talents and creative abilities of the students. Rt. Rev. Isidore Fernandes, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Allahabad, was the Guest of Honour. Mr. Himanshu Kumar, Commissioner of State Excise (U.P.), another ex-student of SJC, was the Guest of Honour in second half of the event on 17th October.
The main events on the first day were English Debate, Hindi Group Song, Cartooning, Ad-man, Group Dances, Antakshari and English Creative Writing. The group dances with dazzling colours and well choreographed movements attracted the attention of all those who were present. Antakshari filled the whole atmosphere with music. On the second day the students displayed their talents in Oxford Dictionary Quiz, Face Painting, English Debate (Classes IX & X), English Group Song, Street Plays and English creative writing. The main attractions of the day two were street plays and Voice of Josephest. It is through street plays students invited everyone to involve in the process of social change which can make our country a developed one. Ultimately Josephest 2007 trophy was won by St. Mary’s Convent Inter College, Allahabad.
