“The heights by great men reached and kept
Were not attained by sudden flight
But they while their companions slept
Were toiling upward in the night”
- Longfellow.
Our school opened this session with the blessings of God through the monsoon showers which breathe in a new life to nature and living beings alike. The rains also bring in the tidings of renewal and that is what we all look forward to in our school- The renewal of our Students body. | KNIT INDIA 2007 |
|
|

The Universal Solidarity Movement, today, is rooted in the cultural traditions of our country. The basic idea of USM is communicating the values of justice, true democracy and fraternity among different individuals. When we come to apply these facts, the images of "KNIT INDIA 2007" at Anandwan strike our mind.
A thirteen-member team from St. Joseph's College, with Mr. Chandan Mishra, under the banner of Universal Solidarity Movement left for Anandwan on the 27th of December to witness this eminent and convivial event.
Anandwan, well known as the forest of bliss, is like a handmade town built by one of India's most revered social and moral leaders, Baba Amte. Though small, it is no less than a dreamland, a perfect, organized and an empowered society of leprosy patients. Baba Amte has devoted his life to the upliftment and rehabilitation of these "Differently Abled" people.
The 39th Annual Knit India aimed at enhancing our 'vision' in life and inculcate in us such leadership qualities that would help us to form a new generation and build up a new world. We got a chance to listen to the experiences of Mr. Jimmy Pinto and Fr. Varghese Alangaden who inspired us and urged us to become role models in our lives. They also urged us to tap our inner potentials and become leaders in this world to lead the path for others. Mr. Vikas Amte, son of Baba Amte and a former member of the Union Planning Commission also inspired us with his words. Mr. Sadashiv Tajne, a disabled man with no legs, also shared his life story with us. He told us how other people laughed at him but he never lost heart. He came to Anandwan, which changed his life. He preached that if we have the confidence to do something then there could be nothing stopping us from succeeding.
During this four-day stay, St. Joseph's College, Allahabad completely colored the scene with its vibrance that left all awestruck. Amidst this serious affair of self discovery we shared some light moments with friends and even made new friends from other schools. We even visited the Crazy Castle Aqua Park in Nagpur.
Well all this fun and education was a part of our "Growing up" not only physically or mentally but socially. We came back from the trip on the 3rd of January with fond memories to cherish forever.

| ALUMNI 2007 |
| A Memorable Evening for S.J.C |
|
On the 18th of November 2007 the St. Joseph's College alumni congregated yet again on the sprawling campus of their alma mater to have a point black experience in their heart.
It was really a memorable evening for a record 100 plus crowd of St. Joseph's College alumni and their better halves as they sang and clapped, reflected and reminisced about those glorious years in their alma mater. The occasion was the Annual Reunion of the S.J. C Old Boys Association held here at the Old Library Hall and the front courtyard of the institution on Sunday, November 18, 2007. The entire environment and ethos had magic about it.
As Sanjiv Singh of the 1985 batch, who was also the Master of Ceremonies for the show, very aptly and characteristically put it, Coming back every time is like a trip down nostalgia lane... The essence of the OBA is to bridge the past, present and future; but that of the Reunion is to revive those nostalgic memories and relive that great spirit which makes the larger S.J. C family so special and intimate...
What followed was an evening of music and nostalgia... with spontaneity and bonhomie not just amongst the alumni, but even their spouses. A melodious number by that musical trio Vivek Mathur, Vivek Singh and Samir Sharma set the tone and spirit, with the jam-packed audience cheering and clapping along. After that a series of entertaining vocal performances by alumni cutting across generations Onkar Khanna, Shyamal Narain and the Ladies--, Manju Narain and Saras Oarbari while an old number by the trio of Shailendra Singh, Piyush Tandon and Siddharth Verma and their wives, ably supported by Vinayak and Prakalp with their keyboard performance got the jam-packed audience cheering and clapping along. Rishadat Kabir, Rashid and Sanjiv Singh swung the crowd with their hilarious jokes.
But the highlight of the programme was the skit presented by Sanjay Khanduja, Aparna Ranjan, Roopa Shankar, Ranjan Srivastava and Pratima Nath especially written and directed by the talented Aparna Ranjan, which led the audience go bonkers. Mr. Justice Vikram Nath of Allahabad High Court, an illustrious alumnus was one of the prominent participant.
The piece de resistance of the evening was the screening of the 'Life at SJC' on stage with the help of Cyber Gadgetries, which evoked keen interest from the Josephites and their spouses.
What, however, made the evening so special this year was the coming together of the past and the present on stage --which not merely regaled the audience with scintillating instrumental performance but assured those belonging to the past that the future of the institution was safe and secure.
The meet was organized by Secretary Hon'ble Mr. Justice Vikram Nath, Joint Secretary, Sanjiv Singh and Treasurer C. K. Pathak. Later in the evening, Col. Gurmeet Singh, the President of the OBA thanked the guests. The meet was followed by dinner. I would fail in my duty if I don't make a special reference to the initiative and inspiration of the present Principal Rev. Father Louis Mascarenhas and the ex-Principal Rev. Father K. K. Antony in sustaining the spirit and exuberance thereof, who were present throughout the show.

In his welcome address he said that Christmas instills hope in us, brings peace to us and imparts us love, so we have to create hope in people who are lonely, sick and frustrated. He called upon the people to share peace and goodwill in word and deed.
At the beginning of the programme, Rodrick George read out the verses from the Holy Bible, which narrated the birth of Christ. Keeping up the rich Indian tradition the students of class 4 and 5 performed a beautiful rhythmic dance and welcomed the guests. The youngest members of SJC family i.e., the students of class Prep, presented a wonderful dance and enthralled all those who gathered there. Thereafter the students of classes 3, 4 and 5 put up a thought provoking Hindi skit which was based on the theme- victory of good over evil.
 |
This was followed by Christmas Tableau which depicted the birth of Christ and the events that took place during the time of First Christmas. Then the students of class 2 put up an action song which narrated the fall of human beings and salvation through Jesus Christ. The main attraction of the programme was the English Skit named ‘Christmas in the Twenty-First Century’ through which the students depicted the relevance of the message of Christmas even in this modern age of information technology. The audience really enjoyed the Christmas Carols presented by the students of senior as well as junior section.
Thereafter the Chief Guest gave a Christmas Message in which he said that Christ has come into this world to establish the values of peace, harmony and justice. He was of the opinion that the selfishness of man has caused a lot of damage to the environment and as a result the earth has lost equilibrium and there is absence of peace and harmony. He called upon the people to defeat the darkness that exists in this world in the form of hatred, selfishness and other vices of the world. While appreciating the programme he said that the students have really brought out the true message of Christmas.
At the end Santa Claus visited the campus and wished Happy Christmas to all by distributing sweets to our little babies. The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Rohan Simon, the Junior Section College Captain.
