On 18th of November '2006, St Joseph's College alumni congregated yet again on the sprawling campus of their alma mater to have a conscious experience of the yesteryears, carefully embedded in their heart.
It was really a memorable evening for a record 100 plus crowd of St Joseph's College alumni and their better halves as they sang and clapped, reflected and reminiscedabout those glorious years in their alma mater. The occasion was the Annual Reunion of the SJC Old Boys Association held here at the old Library Hall and the front courtyard of the institution. The entire environment and ethos had magic about it.
What followed was an evening of music and nostalgia.... With spontaneity and bonhomie not just amongst the alumni, but even their spouses. A melodious number by that Vivek Singh and Shyamal Narain set the tone and spirit. An old number by the trio of Shailendra Singh, Piyush Tandon and Siddhartha Verma and their wives got jam-packed audience cheering and clapping along. Before that a series of entertaining vocal performances by alumni cutting across generations such as Onkar Nath Khanna and Rashid; and Sanjiv Singh with his hilarious jokes, while Mrs. Deb sensitized the crowd with her thoughtful solo. But the highlight of the evening was the nostalgia shared by Ajit Parmar and the oldest alumnus of 1939 batch Mr. H. R. A. Bakht. Hon'ble Mr. Justice Vikram Nath of Allahabad High Court, an illustrious alumnus was one of the prominent participants.
What, however, made the evening so special this year was the coming together of the past and the present on stage -- as the SJC band comprising the present boys Vinayak Verma and Prakhar Tandon (on the keyboards), not merely regaled the audience with scintillating instrumental performance but assured those belonging to the past that the future of the institution was safe and secure.
The meet was organized by the Secretary Hon'ble Mr. Justice Vikram Nath, Joint Secretary Sanjiv Singh and Treasure C. K. Pathak. Earlier in the evening, Col. Gurmeet Singh, the President of the OBA welcomed the guests. Shyamal Narain compered the meet which was followed by dinner. I would fail in my duty if I don't make a special reference to the initiative and inspiration of the present Principal Rev. Father Louis Mascarenhas and the ex Principal Rev. Father K. K. Antony in sustaining the spirit and exuberance thereof, who were present throughout the show
