In this modem world, knowledge is
considered to be a resource which
ensures development of the society
and nation as a whole. We believe that
knowledge is always waiting to be explored
and conquered. Keeping this thought in mind, the G.
K. Association has been working for the past few
, years and has continuously achieved success in its
endeavours under the able guidance of the
coordinators Mr. Shivaji Srivastava and Mrs. D. Raj.
The academic session 2007-08 had been quite fruitful and eventful for the association. The
beginning of the session was marked by the installation of the office bearers for the academic year. Then our office bearers involved themselves in increasing the membership and within no time, our count reached to 230. After the initial rounds of enrolling the members, we started unfolding our activities.
Now it was time to put our finances to use. The first event was organized for class 6 on the 13th of September 07. The prestigious KABIR PEACE MISSION quiz was also conducted on the 14th of September 07 for class 7. All meritorious students were
awarded.
Music is a media for giving expression to one's passions and feelings. As G.K. Association believes in the all round development of personality, we the members organized a music competition called "VOICE OF SJC". Akshay Mathur of class VIII-B was declared as the "VOICE OF SJC" and ultimately he was also declared as the "VOICE OF Josephest 2007". On the 13th of November a quiz was held at Air Force School, Bamrauli on the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee function of Air Force where Parushya and Anupam Bajpai were handpicked to represent the college. A quiz was also organized at the Allahabad Post Office on the 19th of November, in which Vipul Tiwari and Nitin Nigam participated from our school, and also won at the State Level.

| LITERARY
ASSOCIATION |

Bacon has rightly said "Reading maketh I a full man, conference a ready man and writing an exact man"
With these thoughts in mind the Literary Association organized a whole galaxy of events in which
the young asteroids of SJC
took part with full enthusiasm
After the initial round of enrolling the'members, we started unfolding our activities.
Because a sound knowledge of spellings is an
essential tool to build one's language capabilities, first up was the Spell Well Competition for classes 6,7and 8 held on 6th August 2007
The best way to settle a dispute is a debate, so a parliamentary debate, first of its kind in SJC, was organized by the Literary Association. The topic for the debate was "Women are more responsible than Men for the evil of dowry". Two teams, each comprising of 5 participants, -engaged themselves in an enthralling verbal duel.
The elocution contest for classes 6 to 10 was held on the 17th of September as the fuel of poetry is an important tool in developing a love for literature. The impassioned recitation by the participants overwhelmed the audience.
The art of oratory has a profound impact on the mind and the soul. To harness this art a debate was organized on the 9th of October for classes 9 & 10. The topic was "Looks and not books make a man". The heated discussion held everyone spellbound.
The last event organized was the Short Story Writing Competition for classes 9 to 12. Creativity spilled over in this event as one story after another unfolded before us its myriad hues.
As a whole it was a fruitful year and we extend our gratitude to the Principal, Vice Principal and all our dear teachers. Without their support and guidance, we would have not been able to accomplish so much.
As I put my pen down, I would like to tell dear readers that the entire world is a stage and you are on it. All eyes are on you and all ears receptive to your words. It's up to you to handle the pressure. And in that case I would just ask you to win them over.

The academic year 2007-08 was an
eventful year for the USM. Like every
year, we started our activities in the month of July when the new Office
Bearers for the new academic year were elected. Then we got down to the task of enrolling new members. The new members were informed about the objectives and the principles of the USM like the five- way path and the 10-point action. The response from the students, especially from class 6th, was excellent.
On the Independence Day, the members of the USM took part in a rally, organized by the Girl's High School, for National Integration and Peace.
On 2nd of October 2007, we gathered in St.Anthony's Convent to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. On this occasion, we were joined by Padamshree
Dr. Paul who inspired the students with is message. Students from St. Mary’s Convent and Bethany
Convent School also attended the gathering.
Gandhi Jayanti also marked the commencement of our activities. We
started with the USM week in which, the
morning assemblies on various socially
relevant issues were held. We organized a
collage competition for classes 6th, rand
8th on topics taken from the 10-point action
In November, we started our Paper drive to collect old newspapers, clothes,
stationary, etc. to raise funds for, the activities at the national level. Like the
previous year, the response from the
students was once again overwhelming
In December, a few of our I
members accompanied by Fr. Louis I.
Mascarenhas and Mr. B.S. Wilson visited an or phanage. We distributed the stationary among the inmates and spent some time with them. The happiness that we saw in their eyes gave us immense pleasure. At the end of the year, a team of 13 members from our school, led by Mr. C. Mishra, under the banner of USM went to Anandwan in Warora district of
Nagpur to attend the 39th annual KNIT India program from 28th December' 07 to 1 of January'O8. The KNIT India was organized to promote brotherhood and solidarity among different people. People like Fr. Varghese Alangaden, Mr. Jimmy Pinto, and Mr. Vikas Amte shared their experiences with us and inspired us to become role models in our lives. We learnt a lot and returned greatly enriched. The team returned to Allahabad on the 3rd of January with fond memories of the KNIT to cherish for our entire life.
We are thankful to our chairpersons Mrs. P Fredrick and. Mr. B. S. Wilson for their support and encouragement as well as to Fr. Louis Mascarenhas, who has a deep commitment to social upliftment, for his support.

| ART
ASSOCIATION |
|
| |
|
With these thoughts in mind the Art Association of St. Joseph's College began the year with an attempt to move towards perfection. The
Association once again emerged as one of the most prestigious associations of this institution. This year the membership toll reached a record breaking 152, due to ever increasing interest of the students towards artistic creativity. Childhood is filled with joy and enthusiasm. A child has an imaginary world of his own. In order to bring out hidden artistic 'temper', we organized various competitions throughout the year, like painting, cartooning, poster making, collage and face-
painting. The students also expressed their artistic talents by making a number of spectacular and colorful charts. But we chose the best ones to pin them up on the college Bulletin Board.
As soon as our exams ended, we
were ready and charged up for the
different programmers. After overcoming
Many difficulties we were able to put on
a decent show for "Teachers' Day". We
decorated the wall for the show and
presented a 'FURMAAN to our dear teachers.
Soon after, we decorated the notice
, board as a Birthday Gift for our Principal,
in which we made a collage of pictures
depicting his active participation in
various events through out the year.
Then came the association's responsibility to decorate the stage for JOSEPHEST 2007. Under the able
guidance of our teachers, and along with
some of our friends we made a colourful background for the event, showing the
traditional dance of India. We also
bagged the 1st and 2nd prize in cartooning.
It was a fruitful year and we would
like to thank our teachers, Mrs. A.
Joseph and Mrs. C. Walia, who had
been a source of inspiration for us
throughout the year.

COMMERCE ASSOCIATION |
| |
|
Globalization has transformed the entire world into a “Global Village” .with the spread of commerce all the countries of the world have integrated into an ‘economic unit’. The concept of ‘one world one society’ has ushered in the era of Globalization. Commerce has removed all sorts of trade and tariff restrictions. Commerce has facilitated the development of new forms of market as a result of which different countries can make and undertake monetary transactions.
Commerce provides a strong financial base on which the super structure of a nation's prosperity is built. Commerce finances the infrastructural activities and ensures economic development of a nation. It acts as the life blood of every country.
'Well Begun Is Half Done" This was an idea that we had in our minds when we initiated
"Commerce Association" at the beginning of the academic year 2007-08. We knew that since it was a new association with a new vision altogether it would require some time to make our younger brothers aware of its objectives before it focuses to achieve its
goals. We were quite successful in bringing our view of this knowledge to our young ones.
Since an organization requires members to function, our association also required the support of our young brothers. It was a Herculean task to enroll members for our association but we were quite successful in making a mark in the minds of the students. About 250 members subscribed the membership of our association which was remarkable in the first year.
The first event organized by the commerce association was to spread knowledge about its objectives, vision and future course of action. The General Body Meeting was conducted on 21st
September '07 with Mr. Ayush Varshney, the branch manager of Reliance Insurance Corporation as the Chief Guest. While highlighting the importance of commerce in the corporate sector, he stressed more upon application of knowledge in the present day fast "changing 'Global Market' scenario. He also guided us about the future prospects. We also organized a quiz for classes 9th & 10th and received a wholehearted support from our young brothers and about 150 boys participated in the quiz.
So it was quite a commendable beginning and! was a fruitful first year. Though we were not able to achieve all our goals but still we managed to put up a i good show. We have stood up to our motto "To strive, to succeed, to excel". We strived to introduce, stepped
to succeed & will try to excel in the future
I hope that my younger brothers will put in the same hard work and determination and will take the commerce association to greater heights. Lastly, I would like to thank our Principal, Vice Principal, our chairman Mr. N. B. Lawrence and all the teachers who have given their valuable contribution and support to introduce our association. In the end, I would like to thank the members, for without their co-operation and support, we would not have been able to accomplish our goals

L.T.S. ASSOCIATION |
| |
|
All are born equal, but unfortunately only a handful of them turn out to be
true leaders in times of crises.
These people know that reason deceives us but conscience never. And for the rest there is L.T.S., which tries to unveil the hidden leadership qualities. We, the LTSers, see things not as they are, but as we are. The LTS unit at SJC, under the able guidance of our chairperson Dr. (Mrs.) P D'Souza, has been nurturing leaders for the past many years.
LTS grooms the JOSEPHITES into leaders, building up self confidence and increasing the
capacity to take initiatives in order to bring out the world out of its present malaise. We make our
fellow JOSEPHITES realize what is really going on.
This year's session started with the collection of various stationary, items followed by old
newspapers, files and clothes for the
under privileged people who require
our help. We tried our best to explain the motto and motive to the students in order to get a good output. Our efforts worked and we got a great response. The 'Newspaper Campaign' and the collection of 'Stationary Items & Clothes' have always been on LTS's annual agenda. We further donated the stationary items to the 'ASHA DEEP SCHOOL' run by SMC sisters.
We believe that before God can do
his deed, we must do ours. So we organized an inter section collage competition for social awareness. It turned out to be a great success. The topic for the classes were: class 6 - 'WILDLIFE CONSERVATION'; 'Class 7 -'CHILDREN: THE FUTURE OF INDIA'; class 8 -'GREEN HOUSE EFFECT'; class 9 - 'WOMEN EMPOWERMENT'; class 10: 'U.N.O.'.
Prayer is exhaling the spirit of man and inhaling the spirit of God. Keeping, this in mind, we the LTSers conducted a morning assembly to spread our message and to take along our fellow JOSEPHITES in this journey. In this way
all through the year we were successful in keeping our flag "FOR GOD AND COUNTRY" flying high.

President
