The competition is so much that with the awareness of sweeping changes in science and technology one must also have deep and thorough knowledge about the gene happenings around the world.
Charles Darwin had rightly said, "Only the fittest would survive in this modern competitive world".
Our school has always endeavoured for the over all development of its students. And the G.K.
Association has always been an effective helper in this resolution.
This year also the G.K. Association worked' effectively in enhancing the genera awareness of the students, with the teacher incharge Mr. S. Srivastava. This year we organized a written G.K. quiz for classes 6th, 7th and 8th. The quiz was organized on Saturday, 13th August 2005. Along with the members we had a huge crowd of non-members who participated in this event. We received, immense support from our incharge Mr. S. Srivastava. The quiz was a grand success.
After this we again organized G.K. quiz in co- ordination with Literary Association on 14th November. Kabir Peace Mission sponsored this quiz. This quiz was for Classes 6th, 7th and 8th.y Students participated in it with keen interest. Therefore on the whole this year also G.K. Association fulfilled its duties. We provided ample opportunities to the students to bring out their hidden talents.
We hope that G.K. Association will keep on working harder and harder to enhance the general knowledge of the students in the future.

In this world of fairy tales, the son of a Detective, the son of a Merchant and the son of a King set forth in the adventurous quest of the Princess. The Truth, represented by her is approached from three sides by three different types of mind.
The Detective, be he scientist or philosopher has nothing to do with feeling, no sense even of utility, all he has is the spirit of Question.
The Princess has another aspect, that in which she is useful. She spins, weaves and embroiders. The eyes with which the Merchant's son observes her turning her spindle, wielding her shuttle, plying her needle, have in their gays neither feeling, nor questioning, but only Calculation.
The King's son is not a physiologist or psychologist, nor has he passed any examination in ecoomics, What he has, passed is just his 24th year. He has crossed difficult paths not for learning, not for riches, but for the Princess herself whose palace is not in the laboratory, nor in market but in the heart's paradise of Eternal Spring where bloom the flowers in the poet's bower of fantasy.
That which is not known by logic, which defines definition, whose value is not in any practical use, but which can only be intimately felt, finds expression in literature, is the subject of aesthetics.
We can define only that which can be measured: that which is immeasurable, which eludes all attempts at capture, is not attained by reason, but by immediate perception. And the Literary association has always been a gateway to the perception of literature, the most spiritual force in life. The very fact is evident from its motto,
"So let you light shine"
The Dancing Ring of seasons has turned three and a half quarters and we have erected another milestone in the avenue, leaving behind footsteps in the sands of time. We now lay down our achievements of the year: hailed as Cradle of healthy competitions, the L.A. organized a Spell Well Competition for classes 6,7 and 8 because the study of English is futile without a mastery in spellings. An Elocution Competition for classes

6,7and 8 and Debate on the topic "Honesty is a virtue in a fool's dictionary" for classes 9 and 10 was held on the14th of October. The high standard of Debate and the beautiful renderings of great poetry left all awestrudk. Besides the screening of "My Fair Lady" was a Children's Day gift to class 11. The L.A. and the G.K. Associations on the occasion of Children's Day, organized a quiz contest jointly.
We are thankful to Fr. Bona, Mrs. A. Chatterjee, Mrs. Raj and all our dear teachers who have boosted us and helped our association whenever we required them. Hats off, also to our members who were not merely our patrons but the very source of our youth,
and enthusiasm. In conclusion I would like to quote the lines of Arthur Compton- "Literature is viewed not as a mere academic product, but as one expression of the many sided activities of human growth."

CLUB REPORT |

"Enlightening the future"
'An Ocean of knowledge calls upon us to explore it and spread it'.
Listening to this call, the 'SCIENCE CLUB' has tried to do its bit towards spreading knowledge and inculcating a scientific spirit in the young minds of St. Joseph's College.
Under the able guidance of our chairperson, Sharma, the Science Club has tried to achieve its objective of encouraging and nurturing the aptitude for science. The academic Year 2005-06 has been remarkably special for the club for having a record number of students as its members.
The Science club organized a 'Science Quiz' for classes VI to VIII testing their knowledge of science. We received an overwhelming
response from the students and our goal was almost achieved to see the young minds taking keen interest in science. The winners
were awarded by our Principal Fr. Louis Mascarenhas.
Some of our members from class 12 conducted an interesting program for the classes IX to XI demonstrating various 'easy to perform' experiments explaining some important concepts of simple and easy manner. The programme was a huge success and was much appreciated by our Principal as well as the teachers.
The club also encouraged the students to participate in 'Scifest 2005' held at BHS. The students did us proud there as well by winning several prizes for showcasing their creative genius.

TRAINING SERVICE |

"For God and Country"
Today we find only a handful of leaders who have dedicated their whole life for the upliftment of the people who are in need of a helping hand. To render a hand that does 'good' requires something more than being 'good'. It requires vision and innovation to find a lasting solution. It is a leader who takes the first step and that is what L.T.S. did this year, nurtured leaders and took the first step to bring about a 'meaningful' difference.
L.T.S. at St. Joseph's college has always groomed Josephites to become good future leaders. We at L.T.S. train ourselves in the various tenets of leadership by undertaking many projects and assignments aimed at social upliftment. This year under the able leadership and guidance of our Chairperson Dr. (Mrs). Poonam D'Souza we undertook four very important projects.
We, along with the L.T.S. unit of S.M.C., assisted in organizing 'BALDIVAS', a special day long programme for underprivileged children, organized by CHILDLINE, an active NGO of our city. The venue was our school and the date was August 7, 2005. We started our work by distributing the morning breakfast. Thereafter various games filled with fun and frolic as well as competitions were organized for them. After the sumptuous lunch, we geared up for an interactive session with the officials of our city including the District Magistrate. The officials lent an attentive ear to the grievances of the children and the concerned NGOs assured that they would provide all assistance to them. They did not fail to recognize our efforts. They congratulated us for our initiative to make the children happy. It was a thrilling experience or us.
Our next project was to organize a special memorial programme for the earthquake victims of the Kashmir region. We, with the support of the USM group prepared a special homage stand depicting the picture of the devastation and urged the fellow Josephites to come forward and help in every possible way. We also conducted a special assembly, praying for all the victims of this natural calamity.
The L.T.S. made Helpers' Day a great Success. Leaving aside the fact that we helped in organizing, it was our presence which made it more personal for our domestic staff.
L.T.S. along with the USM organized a "Social Awareness Week" from February 13 to 18. During this week we reached out to every single child to make them aware of the "social problems" by conducting assemblies, by making charts and collage on various social issues and collecting things for the needy.
Thus this year too the LTS kept its flag "FOR GOD AND COUNTRY" flying high.

The academic year 2005-06 has been an eventful. one for the U.S.M. We began the year by electing our office bearers under the able guidance and leadership of our Principal Father Louis" Mascarenhas and our Co-ordinators Mrs. P. Frederick and Mr. B.S. Wilson. We started the year with a flourish. Infact, Father Louis renhas who has a deep commitment to social upliftment has been engaged in dedicated service to the community for the last several years.
On Gandhi Jayanti, we marked the commencement of the events of the year. We decided to commemorate the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi by inviting one of his disciples Dr..Miss. S. Govindi to grace the occasion and deliver her inspiring message to the students. We had also invited students from St. Mary's Convent, Bethany Convent and St. Anthony's Convent schools to participate in the event.
However, we could not remain untouched by the earthquake that shook Kashmir and Pakistan occupied Kashmir in the sub continent. In collaboration with the L.T.S. we organized a pictorial representation of the condition of the people of both India and Pakistan, who had suffered alike. We collected a lot of relief materials and distributed them to the poverty-stricken people of Kashmir.
At the end of the year, under Mr. Rohit Cutting, a team of U.S.M. volunteers visited Anandwan in Warora near Nagpur. The volunteers were able to share the lives of the inmates there, and shared a first hand experience of their problems. They actively participated in the 35th Annual KNIT India Forum organized by U.S.M. there, and came back considerably enriched.
To apprise all the students and create greater awareness of our activities and the aims and objectives of the U.S.M., we conducted morning assemblies. In a notable and fruitful collaboration with the L.T.S. we held a social awareness week. Meticulous planning and close co-ordination ensured that the event was a success.
In conclusion we can only reiterate the motto of the U.S.M. which is "It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness". Following this we here at the U.S.M. try to help, to reach out and make a difference and we do it, not because we have to, or, because there is something compelling us to do so, but we do it because we want to help.

Today is the age of information and technology. I. T. has substantially contributed to the growth of mankind in the recent past and still remins the major instrument of modernization. In our college, I. T. has its own arena, provided by Mrs. Anjani Singh, called the I.T. club. As always, this year too, it has played a significant role in increasing the general awareness of the students in this sphere. In our college, the I. T. club focuses on computers, which is undoubtedly the most popular application as well as the basic tool in this field.
The I. T. club aims at exploring the unexplored possibilities in the field of information technology. With this view in mind, it organised various competitions for classes, 6th, 7th and 8th. It also made immense contributions to make Josephest 2005, the most happening event of the year, a grand success. The college earned wide acclaim-
courtsey: the I. T. club- when its blossoming novices stunned the veterans by claiming two of the most coveted awards at the Effervescence 2005, hosted by IIIT-Allahabad. While the I.
